Gestation: 90-95 days, with mom giving birth to 1-8 cubs

Diet: Carnivore– small antelope, warthog, springhare and gamebirds

Characteristics: The Cheetah is built for speed, from the shape of their slender body all the way down to their non retractable claws, which allows for better traction in high speed pursuits. Cheetahs are considered the fastest land mammal, reaching speeds up to 70 miles per hour.

IUCN Status: Vulnerable 2015

Conservation: This species is considered vulnerable due to habitat loss, disease and a high rate of mortality amongst the cubs.

Did you Know: The cheetah hunts by vision rather than by scent like most cats. They rely on their speed to run down and kill their prey. A cheetah is only successful 50% of the time it hunts prey.
